This summer celebrates the 40th Anniversary or what Rolling Stone called "the most famous event in rock history", of the original Woodstock Music & Art Fair. In the summer of 1969, 500,000 people and 32 musical performances came together in Bethel, New York, for an event that sufused our culture, politically and socially, as much as musically.
During that summer, five of those acts, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Johnny Winter, Santana, and Sly & the Family Stone, had also recorded albums for Sony Music Entertainment labels, and for the first time next Tuesday, the Woodstock Experience series combines those albums along with the music from their festival performance.

Sly and the Family Stone are too good
Nobody can be that good. It's impossible.
I am a classical trained musician. I also play jazz.
I have never heard a band as good as Sly and the family Stone. I happened upon them last night when PBS was playing the Ed Sullivan cuts. The first thing i did when i got up this morning was play every youtube video of Sly and the Family i could find. I grew up in the 1960s and all i can say is i must have been blind not to realize the talent in this band.
I use to think it was cool to be a fan of Miles or Trane. No more.
How can they be that good ? I don't understand it.
I'm just stunned.
