Reviews for this Album

I went to see the film Woodstock as a teenager, walked 5 miles to the Cimena as the snow had cut of the buses and ended up being the only person in the place. They put the film on anyway and I waited patiently to watch my idol, Hendrix take the stage. By the time Hendrix came on, I had a new idol, Sly Stone. I'd never seen a band with that much electric energy, talent and funky soul as Sly and the Family Stone. I left the cimena in a trance and bought Greatest Hits and the Woodstck album as soon as the snow stopped.

I've waited, hoping that the rest of the show would someday surface, but a little worried that the rest of the set wouldn't manage to keep up with the highlights on the Woodstck album. All I can say is it not only matches my expectations, but has blown them out of the water. The sound is fantastic, Larry's bass being especially clearer in the mix and the energy and excitement of the event is captured perfectly. This is one of the greatest live albums ever released, a powerhouse of get up and party workouts that showcase them at the top of their game. Sly was and always will be one of music's few geniuses and this is his finest moment.

Shine on Sly.

The 2nd disc of This album was recorded Live, Sly's group felt sly and the love showed in what they produced. I rate this album a four. Nothing could ever touch Sly's studio works.
