I am an English historian studying the effects that black musicians had on the African American freedom struggle, 1960-1975. I would love to hear from you personal accounts on how the music and personality of Sly and the Family Stone affected you (e.g. after hearing a song, or reading an interview by them did you donate money to a civil rights organisation? Did you go and join a freedom march? Were your spirits lifted? Did you feel proud? And so on…). If you were influenced by a particular song then please reference the song and lyric if possible.
